Ken Adams: American Satori / Terra Lucida
October 31 – December 15, 2008
Reception, Friday, October 31, 7 – 11 PM
American Satori / Terra Lucida-
a collection of psychedelic pictograms presented as digital animation and prints.
Of special note will be the first public screening of ‘Terra Lucida (World of Lights)’.  ’Terra Lucida’ is a high definition, animated digital painting developed around recently recovered ‘trance recordings’ of psychedelic theorist/performance artist, Terence McKenna. It features original sound design by Steve Marsh and photography by Gary Kissiah.
Artist Statement:
Given my life experience, I know that there are mysteries, ecstasies, and even Other Worlds to visit and explore.
I don’t always know what to think about it all, and yet I have felt a clear and abiding urge to express the awesome beauty, healing, insight, and humor such voyaging has gifted me.
Interpretive travelogues from other and inner worlds presents unique rewards and challenges, including the fun and drama of being so fully present/immersed in places that ‘don’t really exist’ for most people.  Tasting fruit too exotic for our best poetry is a frequent conundrum.
Words strain to contain oceans of exponential joy.  At the same time, revelations of hyper-attenuated meaning are essential to the psychedelic scenario.
Hence these pictograms and animations, painting with photons to illuminate correspondences between this world and the others.
These images attempt to transmute interior and somehow spiritual states into external, symbolic, visual interpretations -
tracings of an eternal DNA resonance, hermetic holograms humming technoanimistic life-songs.
They come brimming with invitation, risk, and very non-local story streams.
Peace to All Beings

Ken Adams has been mediating inner journeys with silicon for a long time.
He began compulsively creating digital stuff with  Amiga computers in 1988, collaborating with his life-partner, Britt Welin.
As Rose X Media House, they created a series of experimental videos featuring Terence McKenna and other psychedelic luminaries.
Rose X highlights include feature-length projects, ‘Alien DreamTime’ and ‘Strange Attractor’.
Immediately following the attacks of September 11th, Adams began a series of music videos that evolved into a feature-length experimental documentary, ‘Imaginary Muslims & Other Perfect Strangers’.  ’Imaginary Muslims’ weaves together thousands of films, photos, illustrations, and ephemera culled from the American Memory archival media collections of the Library of Congress and other digital collections.  It reflects the premise that we project our own Fears & Desire when we portray Others and Strangers.
