Days of Delays

chrisauterpinJust a reminder that the Sala Diaz Fundraiser at Hermann Sons Bowling Rec Center has been postponed until November 10th. The fundraiser was originally set for Sept. 29th but the bowling place has an air condition unit that’s das kaput. While they are fixing technical difficulties, this should give you plenty of time to buy a table or help out with the event. After 12 years, it’s time to say thanks Sala Diaz. In keeping with the latest full disclosure heat wave, I must say that I have a solo show at Sala Diaz in November. It is called Dead Reckoning. You can pick your friends and you can pick your nose, but you can’t pick your nose’s friends. However, you can go Bowling in the Wind. Press Release follows:

… but for those of you foolish enough to indoctrinate your youngins (ages 7-10) early, SAMA’s offering a Summer Youth Program that’ll help your kids “begin to understand how the museum collection can serve as a learning tool while encouraging the exploration of new ideas and concepts. In addition, students will learn to develop a sense of life-long experimentation, enhancing their abilities to think critically.” Yikes! Well, at least it’ll get ‘em outta the house…. The program runs from July 23 – 27, 10am to 3pm. The instructor is Sabra Booth, longtime San Antonio artist and teacher.

The Winner’s Circle

So we always post opportunities for artists but we rarely get a chance to hear who won the awards/grants/etc. Just wanted to post a big Congratulations to the winners of several travel grants from Dallas Museum of Art. Lily Hanson and Heyd “Everybody’s Naked” Fontenot [see scandalous example above] won the Dozier Travel Grant. My friend and fellow blogger, Eric Zimmerman, won a Kimbrough Fund grant, along with Lauren Boldon, Vanessa Cash, Lawrence Lee, Alvaro Perez, Kelly Smith, and cutie Lizzy Wetzel. Lizzy recently made a black-light-vision-quest installation in the Cherry Picked Show at Wichita Falls Museum of Art. Way to go, Wetzel.

I Got Up At…The Crack of Noon ~ On Kawara

Calling all conceptual art enthusiasts. Triangle Project Space resurfaces after a quiet hiatus. You’re invited to peruse lovely volumes of a million years as depicted by the observational artist, On Kawara. We plucked this photo from Documenta 11 for a preview of the high profile show that includes a performance video from Mexico City-based artist and troublemaker Minerva Cuevas. Look for an interview with her later this week. As an afterthought, the Documenta crew ask some piquant questions like “Is Modernity our Antiquity?” and “What Is Bare Life?” If you’re thinking existentialism is a dish best served over time, then Glitch is the main course. The show opens in April [see events] and I highly recommend visiting TPS founders, Peter Glassford and Luz Maria Sanchez before they vanish from public eye. Last time I saw Luz, I met her at the base of a rusting, metal Rebecca Horn sculpture on the soft beach of Barceloneta, Spain. Now it’s time to go back to the books…
