Celebrating 36 years of creativity, the Fiesta Arts Fair at the Southwest School of Art & Craft is an official “kick-off event” for the renowned Fiesta® San Antonio – 10 days of merriment, pageantry, parties and parades, bringing thousands of visitors to the Alamo City every April.

Last year’s Fiesta Arts Fair was voted the”Best Art & Craft Fair” of the year in San Antonio, and one of the top three most “family friendly Fiesta events” by the readers of the city’s weekly paper.

In February 2008, San Antonio’s Fiesta Arts Fair was named one of America’s Top Ten Art Fairs and Festivals (coming in at #7, to be exact) by the national magazine, American Style.

The 2-day Fiesta Arts Fair is exceptionally welcoming for every generation of your family, with 120 top artists from around the U.S, plenty of live music, a Children’s Art Garden and (as with all true Fiesta events), good food. There’s something for everyone in a relaxed, shady setting.

All proceeds benefit the classes and community programs of The Southwest School of Art & Craft.

Artists

National Show, with a Fiesta Flair
Since 1973, the Fiesta Arts Fair has drawn artists from around the nation and the region, whose work has been selected by a juried panel.

In 2009, 125 artists from 23 states – from Maine to Washington – will display and sell works in metal, ceramics, glass, painting, photography, textures and jewelry.  See the complete list of 2009 artists.

Entertainment

While the art is always the main attraction, Fiesta Arts Fair features two stages of live music throughout its two days. From jazz to Tex-Mex, from folk to Texas blues, there’s always something to tap your toe to.

Food

The menu runs the gamut from gorditas to roast corn and pralines to paletas, and a special kids’ area will serve items sure to quell youngsters’ appetites. Hungry fairgoers can enjoy Mexican favorites by La Margarita, an anchor restaurant in the city’s Market Square and the chief food vendor for Fiesta Arts Fair.

Beverages available at the Fair include beer, margaritas, soft drinks and aguas frescas. And we welcome Madhatter’s Tea House and Café Express for the first time this year serving coffee, tea and baked goods.

Children’s Art Garden

Adult artist-teachers will guide children of all ages through the hands-on creation of Fiesta medals, clay sculptures, stained glass, monoprints, face painting, beading and quilling, metal repousse, art pots and Fiesta crowns. Staff will be on hand to register students for the school’s Summer Art Camp program.

Parking

There are many parking garages and self-pay parking lots within two blocks of the Southwest School of Art & Craft along St. Mary’s, Navarro, Augusta and Soledad streets. The School is located on several major VIA bus routes; connect to VIA for a trip planner.
