Emilio Tamez will be performing “Drum Odyssey,” an original composition for extended drum set solo and voice, at Salon Mijangos on May 3 at 8pm.

The piece is based on texts by Carl Sagan (“The Demon-Haunted World”) and Stanislaw Lem’s “Solaris.” The idea of the piece as a musical experience is what Tamez calls a science fiction percussive sound projection, which narrates aspects of the human inner search. Tamez will then perform an improvised second set with San Antonio musicians Sanford Allen (guitarist Boxcar Satan), James Cobb (saxophonist Pseudo Buddha, Six Fing Thing), Jane Henry (violinist) and James Sidlo (guitarist Pseudo Buddha).

This show is organized by Improv_SA and costs $7 at the door.
