No American Talent 3 : Basim Magdy – The Common Deceit of Reality
April 21st – May 26th

“This artist’s first Texas solo show will comprise of an installation made especially for Okay Mountain titled: Mud Pools and How We Got Ourselves to Look for Big Foot Heaven. Also on view, In the Grave of Intergalactic Utopia, the artist’s seminal public piece shown during an earlier exhibition at Newman Popiashvili Gallery in New York. Magdy’s creatures and half-breeds run amok and re-appear throughout his highly colored works on paper and immersive sculptural installations. In many ways they are counterfeit stand-ins for dangerous alter-egos, proxy heroes and fallen heroes and the failed dreams of progress and civility.”

Basim will also be giving a free lecture at the University of Texas’ Art Building, Room 1.110 at 5pm on Wednesday the 18th. We are all very excited about this show and hope to see all of you there.

Love,
Okay Mountain
