Lynch’s music and foley and sets were absolutely phenomenonal. They’ve burned an impression into my head that’s been with me all day since seeing Inland Empire.
He writes and performs a lot of the music humself, and even works as a carpenter on his sets!
Some of the scene edits and subtle effects had me and futureWorkerGirl agape.
And this film finally captures the precise pace for a proper and perfect Lynchian epic.
Now in my top 5 films– the depth of artistry Lynch has pulled off in “Inland Empire” is truly amazing. In particular, the many levels of subconscious, reality, and dreamspace he ushers the viewer into and out of, constantly challenging the viewer’s notion of what is “real” in the movie. He plays off the audience’s expectation and desire for concrete understanding of the world encompassed within the picture, shifting and sifting the ground on which we stand, opening up endless trap-doors beneath our feet. With this picture, Lynch has moved me much more deeply and successfully than ever back into the space that artculates his central essential story.
