Description

Panel discussion: “Water Flows In All Directions”

Auditorium. Free and open to the public.
In conjunction with the opening of the River Walk in the Museum Reach area and the concurrent exhibition, Waterflow, The Brown Foundation Curator of Contemporary Art, David S. Rubin moderates a panel featuring four artists from the exhibition: Justin Boyd, Ansen Seale, Liz Ward, and Liliana Wilson. The panel will explore different approaches to water as an image in contemporary art. Boyd’s recent new media work looks at the American traditions of music associated with the Mississippi River. Seale uses a digital “slitscan” camera of his own invention to show water in continuous movement. Ward’s abstract watercolors call attention to environmental erosion along coastlines. In Wilson’s paintings, water becomes a metaphoric vehicle for social commentary on current border issues.
