Description

The Museo Alameda’s Regalo Gift Shop and Botánica invites you to a reading and disscussion featuring Las Mujeres Writing Group. The reading will be immediately followed by a book signing of Las Mujeres book, Encuentros de Mujeres: Women’s Collective Cultural Memory in San Antonio, Texas. In 2002 a group of women from the community surrounding Our Lady of the Lake University were invited by the staff of the Center for Women to come together and reflect on their lives as mothers, wives, daughters and primarily as women of faith. These women decided to write their stories for others to read and in 2003 published their first anthology, Encuentros de Mujeres: Women’s Collective Cultural Memory in San Antonio, Texas. This publication compelled the women to recognize the importance of having a voice; a voice that would last, written down for the world to read. They continue to meet, read and write today and the group is open to any woman over 18 years of age.

Las Mujeres Writing Group is the seventh author of the Regalo Gift Shop and Botánica Author Signing and Reading Series.

Other authors have included Dr. Roberto Treviño, Ward Albro, Ruben Cordova, Ernesto Nieto and Robert Chavez.

Refreshments will be provided.
