The visionary paintings of Ed Wilcox will be opening at Salon Mijangos on November 10, 7-10 pm. The show is titled “One Hundred Small Paintings and a Few Big Ones,” so you know it will be wild.
Ed Wilcox’s distinctive paintings have been described by the New York Times as “finely wrought, hallucinatory cartoon images.” Wilcox’s work draws on a range of styles (he is also a commercial graphic artist who has worked for magazines such as Spin) to create a unique psychological landscape which was depicted in Artforum as “Babar meets Henry Darger” (Elizabeth Schambelan, 2003). Schambelan goes on to nominate Wilcox as “a viable candidate for eminence grise of postmedium, postprovincial, postpunks everywhere.”
