Any recomendations on where to find CDs made by these guys?
atanase at church number 9 posts a lot of rare recordings of arthur doyle and han bennink (usually with peter brotzmann). but as for cds, look for peter brotzmann records and bennink will often be on there. he also recorded duos with keiji haino, derek bailey, eugene chadbourne, and those should all be available. for arthur doyle stuff, look no further than this page. i recommend starting with dawn of a new vibration.
oh and i’ve heard this album is really good, but haven’t checked it out yet.
Oh, so miffed that I missed this show! Looks like they had a good time tearing up the joint, the beginning of this clip shows what can happen when the artists embrace the element of surprise…!!! CYMBALISM…haha.
It was a great night of music! Thank you Heavy Denim and KRTU. If you missed the show… Han Bennink will return to Texas on March 29th with the ICP Orchestra for a show in Austin at the Carver Theater. epistrophyarts.org will have info about the show and others very soon. There are a few available solo drumming CDs by Bennink. There is one on DATA records that is outstanding. All of the ICP Orchestra CDs are worth having as well. Bennink was a member of the Clusone 3…. those records are fantastic as well. If you can track down Noah Howard’s Black Ark from 1969, there are some great solos by Arthur Doyle.
