The UTSA Satellite Space proudly announces Engaging Propositions, an exhibition featuring work by Joseph Cohen and Robert Tiemann.  Both Cohen and Tiemann, driven by the desire to say something new, believe the only way to do so is to do something new with their materials.  Cohen’s Propositions are philosophical inquiries into both the nature of painting and the act of perception.  Painting layer atop layer, Cohen creates historically rich surfaces that both reveal and conceal the memories of his prior peregrinations.  In certain works, a series of colorful vertical lines may extend to the edge of a work, cold mechanical lines morphing into corporeal drips that appear frozen in time.  Robert Tiemann, a vital presence in the San Antonio art world for over 35 years, will be offering works that blur the line between drawing and printmaking.  Calling for a slowing down, Engaging Propositions affords its viewers recourse from the chaotic day-to-day, granting its viewers an arena in which to examine and consider works that allow for a contemplative respite.
