2ND SATURDAY: Gregory at FLIGHT

Posted by thomas-cummins on 30 Jul 2009 | Tagged as: upcoming events

Sat, Aug 8
7:00 pm to 11:00 pm

Second Saturday is usually on the following weekend after First Friday but this month it falls on the very next day. Second Saturday is a monthly showcase of the area commonly known as SoFlo (a trendy abbreviation for the South Flores street where it is located) also known as the Lone Star District (named after the cross-street LoneStar Blvd. where the Lone Star Brewing Company once stood.) The area is only a few blocks South of the Blue Star District but is popular for those who want a less crowded environment than the one found at First Friday. Art galleries include One9Zero6, FL!GHT, LoneStar Studios, and Gallista Gallery.

Justin’s out of town and Second Saturday falls after First Friday but from what I can gather, curator Ed Saavedra and artists Tommy Gregory and Kelly O’Connor are working hard to put together a great show at FLIGHT.

“It is high time to draw on our rich and subversive history as artists/thinkers/critics, lest we forget the past. There are any number of issues that cry out for soapboxes, bully pulpits and fuse lighters. For those who truly possess the will to provoke, the present appetite for change could be nothing less than a free-for-all.”

Description:
A monthly bike ride that meets every last Friday of the month at 9pm in front of the Alamo and departs at 9:30pm. The route changes month to month, and often within the ride itself.

A fast-paced ride for casual cyclists; a slow-paced ride for those used to going fast; but typically it all works out, basically because there is no grand plan other than riding around so there’s nothing really that can go wrong, at least in theory.
